Broadstairs, the Area

The town of Broadstairs, with it's narrow streets and olde worlde charm, remains incredibly unchanged through the test of time. Yet it offers many attractions to suit all requirements. Broadstairs has seven small bays, sheltered by surrounding chalk cliffs and fine sandy beaches. It is an ideal location for sun bathing, swimming and all types of water sports. Viking Bay in particular has , for many years, been warded the blue flag for clean water, making this beach a big favourite with families. However, Stone Bay is a quieter beach, giving everyone a choice to meet their particular preferences.

Broadstairs is also steeped in history. Bleak house for example, made famous by Charles Dickens where he wrote some of his books. In fact Dickens' House Museum is a must to visit, as it still contains some of his artefacts.

There are many fine walks both in the country or along the cliff tops with panoramic sea views.

There is the ancient town of Sandwich and Deal both of which are worth a visit. The latter still has one of the remaining working time balls in England, used by the Royal Navy in the days when ships were powered by sail.

We also must mention the historic city of Canterbury with it's magnificent Cathedral and shopping facilities.

For the more adventurous, Dover is a must. Take a day trip to France, enjoy different cuisine and tax reduced shopping. Conjures up in ones mind the days of the smugglers in yesteryear.

Nestled in the Country side there are many small picturesque villages to visit. This whole area is a delight to spend time in, and we have no doubt you will take home fond memories of South East Kent.
